Choosing the best ultra bike

27 April 2020
-
Academy-en-Stage 1

In this academy segment, we will guide you in defining the best bike for your needs, and above all budget, by covering the 10 main topics when “creating” your bike.

The video covers:
-00:44 The type of bike frame: carbon, aluminium, steel or titanium? what are the positives and down sides of each?
-01:39 Rim or disc brakes: what’s the best choice for ultra-distance?
-02:22 The groupset: what are the caracteristics to focus on when riding long distance?
-03:47 The wheels: size and material, choose the best to adapt to the route conditions and your wallet.
-04:57 The tires: route conditions will define what tire size to use.
-05:21 The saddle: do not neglect that key aspect of your bike, a wrong saddle can break all your efforts.
-05:42 The handlebar: choose based on your riding style and the terrain.
-06:40 The pedals: comfort, practicality or durability; another key aspect.
-07:18 The powermeter: is it really necessary?
-08:02 The power source: dynamo or powerbank?

These pieces of advice, based on thousands of kilometers spent on a variety of terrain, but also on the experience gathered on the BikingMan races and the testimonials of the participants, should help you define what’s the best for you, and your budget.
