Useful Infos to participate

Valberg is located just 1 hour and 20 minutes from Nice. Perched like an “eagle’s nest” at an altitude of 1,700 meters, it is a fantastic destination for cyclists—and the roads leading there are truly unforgettable. Whether you arrive via the Cians Gorges, the Daluis Gorges, the Col de la Couillole, or the Col de la Cayolle, you’ll be treated to spectacular scenery on your way to this peaceful resort. It’s a favorite getaway for locals from the Côte d’Azur, who come here to recharge, far from the noise, the crowds, and the sweltering summer heat:

  • By train: The Nice train station is the closest to Valberg. From there, you can take a shuttle bus or simply cycle the rest of the way.
  • By car: It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive from Nice to the resort with your bike. Feel free to use the participants’ Facebook group if you’d like to arrange a carpool with others! 😉
  • By plane: Nice Airport is the closest to Valberg. From there, you have several options: rent a car, carpool with another participant, take a shuttle bus from the Nice train station, or cycle the rest of the way.

The exact locations of the checkpoints will be indicated on the final traces as well as on your brevet card, which will be provided in your race package.

For your safety, it is mandatory to present the following items during Check-in:

  • GPS tracker – provided by the organization
  • 1x set of 4 spare AAA batteries (lithium) (for the GPS tracker)
  • Bike GPS – Wahoo / Garmin type or equivalent
  • 1x bicycle helmet
  • 1x front light (with permanent mode)
  • 1x rear light (with permanent mode)
  • 1x bicycle pump (mandatory even when using tubeless tires)
  • 1x inner tube + 1x repair kit (patch + glue + tire changer – mandatory even when using tubeless tires)
  • Water bottles for a minimum capacity of 1.5l of water
  • 1x pair of gloves
  • Reflective clothing (eg: Audax vest, yellow safety vest…)
  • 1x survival blanket
  • 1x jacket or jersey with light rain protection, ideally with a hood
  • Warm protection for cool nights (e.g. leg and arm warmers)
  • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • Mobile phone and charging device (eg: dynamo or USB battery)
  • Identity document + paper or digital copy of it (ex: keep a copy of your passport or identity card on your personal cloud)

Depending on your race format, here are our technical recommendations for your bike:
For the 1000 km and HALF road events, the routes are 100% paved. The quality of the asphalt varies, and depending on weather conditions, the roads may be slippery or covered with debris such as leaves, stones, etc.
For the GRAVEL 555, the route includes approximately 100 kilometers of alpine and forest trails.

We therefore recommend using the following equipment:

ROAD FORMAT

  • Comfort-oriented road bikes are recommended.
  • Tires: 25mm minimum; 32mm or 34mm if you are looking for optimal comfort.
  • Disc brakes.
  • Drivetrain: 50-34T (front) and 11-34T (rear) as a minimum.

GRAVEL FORMAT

  • Gravel bikes or hardtail mountain bikes are recommended.
  • Tires: 40mm minimum, or 45mm for added comfort.
  • Drivetrain: Single chainring (36T or 38T) or sub-compact (e.g., 46-30T) paired with the largest possible cassette (e.g., 10-50T).
  • Disc brakes.

The official hostfor the Côte d’Azur stage

Valberg is a charming village resort in the Southern Alps. Originally a shepherds’ plateau, it was transformed into a pioneering ski resort in the Alpes-Maritimes region during the 1935–1936 season—a place with deep spiritual ties to the Savoyard saint who serves as the protector of the mountains. It has been an official partner of BikingMan for over three years. It is an ideal setting to experience your race surrounded by nature.
You are welcome to arrive with a tent, van, or motorhome, and take advantage of the areas made available to participants for the duration of the event. If you choose to bring your family, a wide range of outdoor activities is also available on-site.

What I’ll find at the BikingMan Alpes-Maritimes checkpoints

  • BikingMan Angels to welcome and encourage you 24/7
  • Rest areas equipped with camp beds for power naps
  • Charging stations for your gear (GPS, lights, mobile phones, etc.)
  • Supplies including water and snacks
  • Hot coffee to help you get back on track with renewed energy
  • An ultra-distance catering service for hot meals 24/7

What awaits me on the BikingMan finishline

  • Red carpet to welcome you after your feat
  • BikingMan Angels on fire with the BikingMan bell
  • Unforgettable encounters with other finishers
  • Sharing experiences with the #BikingManFamily
  • Your awards ceremony: Finisher t-shirt, medal and diploma
