Sri Lanka means “the resplendent island”. Until 1972 it was called “Ceylon”, like the eponymous black tea. The country has a rare cultural diversity with a majority of Buddhists with Hindu, Muslim and Christian minorities. Its topography features a central mountainous area with a highest point at 2,524 meters above sea level, numerous tropical forests and enchanting lakes. The island’s coastline, 1,340 km long, is made up of sandy areas. Sri Lanka is populated by endemic species such as the Sri Lankan elephant.
The lion has been the official Sri Lankan symbol since the arrival of the island’s first king: Vijaya, who came from India in -486. It symbolizes courage, freedom and hope.
Expect a truly exotic gravel ultracycling experience. Between the dense vegetation, the hot temperatures, the unusual fauna encountered along the route and the welcome of the Sri Lankans, it’s Adventure with a capital “A”.
The route is a mix of asphalt and gravel portions throughout the 1,000km. It is essential to take on the challenge with a gravel bike (with or without a suspension fork). We recommend using:
- Gravel bike (with or without suspension fork)
- Minimum 35mm tires
- Disk brakes
- Transmission: DOUBLE CHAINRING: FRONT 48-31 or 46-30 teeth with 11-34 cassette minimum or MONO 38 or 40 teeth with 11-42 cassette
For your safety, you are required to bring the following equipment with you to participate in the race. The organization will ensure that you are in possession of the mandatory equipment when athletes and bikes check-in.
- GPS tracker – provided by the organization
- 1x set of 4 spare AAA batteries (lithium) (for the GPS tracker)
- Bike GPS – Wahoo / Garmin type or equivalent
- 1x bicycle helmet
- 1x front light (with permanent mode)
- 1x rear light (with permanent mode)
- 1x bicycle pump (mandatory even when using tubeless tires)
- 1x inner tube + 1x repair kit (patch + glue + tire changer – mandatory even when using tubeless tires)
- 1x spare set of brake pads
- Water bottles for a minimum capacity of 1.5l of water (1x 750ml water bottle provided to each athlete by the organization)
- 1x pair of gloves
- Reflective clothing (eg: Audax vest, yellow safety vest…)
- 1x survival blanket
- 1x jacket or jersey with light rain protection, ideally with a hood
- Sunglasses with UV protection
- Mobile phone and charging device (eg: dynamo or USB battery)
- Identity document + paper or digital copy of it (ex: keep a copy of your passport or identity card on your personal cloud)

- Check-in: Sunday April 28th from 7am to 10am.
- Pre-race Briefing: Sunday April 28th at 10:30am.
- Race start: Sunday April 28th at 12pm.
- CP1: Location to be confirmed 1 month before the race
- CP2: Location to be confirmed 1 month before the race
- CP3: Location to be confirmed 1 month before the race
- Race cutoff time: Friday May 3rd at 12pm.
- Closing lunch: Friday May 3rd at 12pm.
