BikingMan X Maroc – Jour 1

La journée a commencé par un départ neutralisé pendant 40km. Le peloton a roulé groupé jusqu’au pied du col de Tichka 2260m, le plus haut col routier du pays.
Avec la première ascension, les premières positions s’établissent rapidement avec Maxime Prieur en tête qui fixe le rythme, suivi de Laurent Jalabert et Ahmed Nkoub.
Dans le top 10 figure Laurianne, Cristian Auriemma ex-vainqueur du BikingMan X. Au bout d’une centaine de kilomètres Laurent Jalabert et Ahmed Nkoub font une erreur de parcours qui leur coute quelques positions. Laurianne passe alors 2ème, avant de céder cette position au tandem belge Mathieu et Guillaume. Laurent Jalabert entame alors une grande remontée. Ahmed quant à lui explose.

Place désormais à la plus grande portion gravel pour les premiers (60km) après le CP1 pour rejoindre la vallée du Draa. Laurent Jalabert, 2ème, part en chasse de Maxime toujours en tête. Les 2 passent la partie gravel sans encombres avec un vent de dos puissant. La nuit tombe, le CP1 est ouvert jusqu’à 8h00. La tête de course s’apprête à affronter le col redoutable du Tazazert culminant à 2 283m.

À 5h00, le cap des 520 km a été franchi par Laurent Jalabert qui a pris la tête de la course pendant la nuit, poursuivi par Maxime et Laurianne. Tout peut arriver il reste encore de nombreuses difficultés sur le parcours.

BikingMan X Morocco – Day 1

The day started with a neutralized start for 40km. The peloton rode together to the foot of the Tichka pass 2260m, the highest road pass in the country.
With the first ascent, the first positions are quickly established with Maxime Prieur in the lead who sets the pace, followed by Laurent Jalabert and Ahmed Nkoub.
In the top 10 is Laurianne, Cristian Auriemma, ex-winner of BikingMan Laurianne then moved to 2nd, before ceding this position to the Belgian tandem Mathieu and Guillaume. Laurent Jalabert then begins a major comeback. Ahmed for his part explodes.

Now it’s time for the largest gravel portion for the first few (60km) after CP1 to reach the Draa valley. Laurent Jalabert, 2nd, chases Maxime who is still in the lead. The two passed the gravel section without incident with a powerful tailwind. Night falls, CP1 is open until 8:00 a.m. The leader of the race is preparing to face the formidable Tazazert pass peaking at 2,283m.

At 5.00 am, the 520 km mark was passed by Laurent Jalabert, who took the lead overnight, followed by Maxime and Laurianne. Anything can happen, and there are still plenty of difficulties on the route.

BikingMan X Maroc – Jour 2

Au petit matin, les premiers arrivent déjà au Chekpoint 2. Une heure sépare le premier Maxime Prieur, du 2ème Laurent Jalabert, lui-même une heure devant la première femme et 3e au scratch, Laurianne Plaçais.

C’est alors que la dure loi de l’ultracyclisme frappe. Laurent Jalabert est contraint à l’abandon suite à une casse mécanique au km615 après avoir réalisé un effort spectaculaire depuis le départ. Le champ est libre pour Maxime Prieur qui prend la tête de la course, après avoir longuement bataillé avec l’ancien professionnel. Il est désormais suivi par Laurianne Placais et Florent Dumas qui se disputent les 2e et 3e place du podium.

Les premiers devraient atteindre le Chackpoint 3, situé au km 785 en début de soirée. La bataille finale se poursuivra toute la nuit pour atteindre l’arrivée de ce BikingMan X Maroc.

Pour les coureurs qui ne se disputent pas le classement c’est un mélange d’émotions intenses entre les sublimes paysages, la difficulté du parcours et les belles rencontres réalisées sur le parcours. Chacun s’accroche à ses motivations les plus profondes pour continuer à avancer et se rapprocher, kilomètre après kilomètre de leur objectif. Pour beaucoup, l’arrivée au CP2 est déjà une petite victoire. C’est l’occasion de se restaurer et se reposer avant de reprendre la route.

BikingMan X Morocco – Day 2

In the early hours of the morning, the frontrunners were already arriving at Chekpoint 2. An hour separated first-placed Maxime Prieur from second-placed Laurent Jalabert, himself an hour ahead of the first woman and 3rd overall, Laurianne Plaçais.

It was then that the hard law of ultracycling struck. Laurent Jalabert was forced to retire after suffering a mechanical breakdown at km615 after a spectacular effort from the start. The field was cleared for Maxime Prieur, who took the lead after a long battle with the former professional. He is now followed by Laurianne Placais and Florent Dumas, who are battling it out for 2nd and 3rd place on the podium.

The frontrunners should reach Chackpoint 3, located at km 785, early this evening. The final battle will continue throughout the night to reach the finish of this BikingMan X Maroc.

For the riders who aren’t battling it out for the rankings, it’s a mix of intense emotions, with the sublime scenery, the difficulty of the route and the wonderful encounters made along the way. Everyone is clinging to their deepest motivations to keep going and get closer, kilometre after kilometre, to their goal. For many, the arrival at CP2 is already a small victory. It’s an opportunity to eat and rest before hitting the road again.

BikingMan X Maroc – Jour 3

Pendant que la tête de course fixe un rythme effréné en survolant les difficultés du parcours avec Maxime en tête, Laurianne en deuxième position et Florent troisième, la verticalité du relief marocain se révèle pour tous les participants avec l’enchaînement redoutable des cols de Tazazerte et de Ouano. L’arrivée des premiers ultracyclistes est prévue ce mercredi matin à la ligne d’arrivée sur Marrakech !

À l’arrivée, c’est Maxime Prieur qui l’emporte en 55h16min après avoir mené presque toute la course en tête.

Il devance, Laurianne Placais qui termine 2ème en 56h59 et première femme. Elle confirme également sa victoire au scratch sur le championnat BikingMan 2023 après une course extraordinaire aux côtés de Maxime et Laurent Jalabert.

Florent Dumas de Fast Club, termine sur la 3e place du podium en 58h34min après une remontée fantastique !

BikingMan X Morocco – Day 3

While the frontrunners set a frenetic pace over the difficult sections of the route, with Maxime in the lead, Laurianne in second place and Florent in third, the verticality of the Moroccan terrain was revealed to all the participants with the fearsome sequence of the Tazazerte and Ouano passes. The first ultracyclists are due to arrive at the finish line in Marrakech this Wednesday morning!

At the finish, it was Maxime Prieur who won in 55h16min after leading for most of the race.

He was ahead of Laurianne Placais, who finished 2nd in 56hrs 59mins and was the first woman. She also confirmed her overall victory in the BikingMan 2023 championship after an extraordinary race alongside Maxime and Laurent Jalabert.

Florent Dumas of Fast Club finished 3rd on the podium in 58h34min after a fantastic comeback!

BikingMan Euskadi 2023 – Jour 1

Première journée sur ce bikingman euskadi, un classique comme à chaque fois des départs à bloc comme sur une cyclo, des explosions, des remontées piano.
Les conditions sont idéales avec une trentaine de degrés (10 de moins qu’en 2022), beaucoup de pèlerins du st jacques dans la montée de st jean pied de port, signe que le climat est clément.
Comme à chaque édition, la faune s’invite sur les routes, ce qui n’est pas sans nous rappeler la manche Corse.
Mais outre ces conditions, le vrai défi seront les pourcentages. On peut dire que la course ne débute qu’à St jean pied de port, aussi bien pour les leaders, que pour les challengers et les finishers.
Les pourcentages infâmes des pentes menant au jusqu’au CP1 poussent les concurrents dans leurs retranchements, obligeant certains à poser le pied à terre alors qu’il reste plus de 800km à parcourir.  De leur côté les leaders, les jeux se dévoilent avec la difficulté précoce du parcours, pas de place pour l’intox, c’est la pente qui fait sa sélection naturelle. A ce jeu-là c’est Sébastien Pailly qui tire son épingle du jeu en pointant premier au CP1 à 16h17, suivi de Laurianne Plaçais 30 minutes plus tard et du local de l’épreuve Laurent Garbolino encore 30 minute après.
Petite incertitude concernant le duo de tête avec chacun leurs handicaps, Sebastien Pailly souffre d’un braquet inadapté pour ces pourcentages, à voir comment il évoluera au niveau musculaire et tendineux. Pour Laurianne Plaçais c’est l’incertitude concernant son état de forme après son opération post Bikingman France et sur comment va-t-elle gérer les douleurs à la selle découlant de son opération.
Remi Borrion ex vainqueur du Bikingman France et Aura navigue dans le top 10 sans s’affoler.
Pour les leaders comme pour les challengers la nuit va écrémer les positions et nous allons pouvoir assister aux grand bal des stratégie autour du sommeil.
Demain au menu pour la tête de course un plat de résistance ultra copieux avec de la haute montage avec le point culminant de l’épreuve à près de 2200m.
Pour le reste le CP1 sera le refuge de cette première nuit.

BikingMan Euskadi 2023 – Day 1

The first day of this bikingman euskadi was a classic, as it is every time, with cyclo-cross starts, explosions and piano lifts.
Conditions were ideal, with temperatures of around thirty degrees (10 degrees cooler than in 2022) and lots of pilgrims on the climb up to St Jean Pied de Port, a sign that the climate was clement.
As with every year, the roads are lined with wildlife, which reminds us of the Corsican round.
But apart from these conditions, the real challenge will be the gradients. It’s fair to say that the race doesn’t start until St Jean Pied de Port, for the leaders, challengers and finishers alike.
The infamous gradients on the slopes leading up to CP1 push the competitors to their limits, forcing some to put their foot down with over 800km to go. As for the leaders, the early difficulty of the route meant that there was no room for exaggeration: it was the gradient that made the natural selection. Sébastien Pailly came out on top at CP1 at 16:17, followed by Laurianne Plaçais 30 minutes later and local rider Laurent Garbolino another 30 minutes later.
Sebastien Pailly is suffering from a gear ratio that is unsuitable for these gradients, so it remains to be seen how his muscles and tendons will develop. For Laurianne Plaçais, it’s a question of uncertainty about her condition.

BikingMan Euskadi 2023 – Jour 2

Une deuxième journée à nouveau placée sous le signe du soleil sur ce Bikingman Euskadi.
Le vent s’est fortement levé autour du CP1 dans la matinée, il était temps pour nos lanternes rouge d’y pointer.
Le soleil et la chaleur, même si nous sommes bien en dessous des températures de l’an dernier, affaibli les organismes occasionnant quelques problèmes médicaux métaboliques (crampes, vomissements et autres réjouissances). 13 abandons au total ce soir à 19h, très souvent pour les mêmes raisons, coup de chaud, fatigue.
Alors que les derniers ont franchi la barre des 300km, les premiers sont déjà repartis du CP2 au KM 620.
La nuit dernière a été riche en enseignements, Sébastien Pailly alors en tête s’est arrêté dormir pour laisser la première place à Laurianne Plaçais arrivée en tête au CP2. Leurs poursuivants se sont arrêtés dormir pour reprendre une bonne cadence 60km derrière notre duo de tête. Duo qui a attaqué les monstres pyrénéens en début d’après midi, un plat de résistance ultra copieux avec un enchainement de 8 cols majeurs de la chaîne des Pyrénées avec pour point culminant le Tourmalet.
Laurianne Plaçais est donc arrivée en première position au CP2, suivie de Sebastien Pailly 45 min derrière. Ce dernier tente la stratégie du « all in » en ne s’arrêtant de 3 min pour repasser devant Laurianne, alors en train de faire une sieste, Laurianne qui est repartie tranquillement quelques minutes derrière après s’être reposée.  A partir du CP2 on commence à calquer sa stratégie sur les autres, soit ça passe, soit ça ne casse pas, ça explose. La nuit va être décisive, qui aura besoin de sommeil ? qui pourra appuyer jusqu’à l’arriver ? quelle sera la meilleur stratégie, ne pas dormir et rouler piano, dormir et envoyer, ou ne pas dormir et envoyer ? « C’est à la fin du marché qu’on compte les bouses » déjà demain matin nous aurons un premier aperçu de la stratégie payante.
L’arrivée des premiers aura lieu entre le début et le milieu d’après midi.
Pour le reste c’est direction CP2, la nuit des race angels va être longue !

BikingMan Euskadi 2023 – Day 2

The second day of the Bikingman Euskadi was once again a sunny one.
The wind picked up strongly around CP1 in the morning, so it was time for our Red Lanterns to make their move.
The sun and the heat, even if we’re well below last year’s temperatures, weakened the bodies, causing a few metabolic medical problems (cramps, vomiting and other pleasures). A total of 13 riders dropped out this evening at 7pm, very often for the same reasons: heat exhaustion or fatigue.
While the last riders have passed the 300km mark, the first have already set off again from CP2 at KM 620.
Sébastien Pailly, who was in the lead at the time, stopped to sleep and handed over first place to Laurianne Plaçais, who had arrived in the lead at CP2. Their pursuers stopped to sleep before picking up the pace 60km behind our leading duo. The pair attacked the Pyrenean monsters in the early afternoon, a hearty main course with a series of 8 major passes in the Pyrenees, culminating in the Tourmalet.
Laurianne Plaçais arrived in first place at CP2, followed by Sebastien Pailly 45 minutes behind. Sebastien Pailly tried an « all in » strategy, stopping for just 3 minutes to get back in front of Laurianne, who was taking a nap at the time. Laurianne then set off again quietly a few minutes later after resting. From CP2 onwards, you start to follow the strategy of the others, either you get through, or you don’t, you explode. The night is going to be decisive: who will need sleep? who will be able to push all the way to the finish? what will be the best strategy, not to sleep and ride the piano, to sleep and send, or not to sleep and send? « It’s at the end of the market that you count the dung », and tomorrow morning we’ll have our first glimpse of the strategy that pays off.
The first boats will arrive between early and mid-afternoon.
As for the rest, it’s off to CP2 – it’s going to be a long night for the race angels!

BikingMan Euskadi 2023 – Jour 3

Mercredi c’est le jour des enfants mais c’est surtout le jour de l’arrivée des premiers sur ce BikingMan euskadi.
La stratégie de Sébastien Pailly s’est révélée payante, il a réussi à distancer Laurianne Plaçais entre le CP2 et l’arrivée, premier en haut du Tourmalet il ne quittera plus jamais la tête de la course. Il en termine en 55h45 après un super solide finish, digne d’une allure de cyclosportive. De son côté Laurianne signe une magnifique deuxième place et la victoire femmes, elle n’a pas cherché à batailler plus que ça pour la victoire. L’enjeux de sa saison étant le championnat, elle s’est mise hors de portée du 3eme de Laurent Garbolino et a intelligemment géré sa fin de course pour s’entamer le moins possible pour la grande final du X au Maroc. Elle est actuellement largement leader du championnat 2023, fait historique sur le BikingMan.
Le groupe de poursuivant à légèrement éclaté mais ont retrouve les noms que mardi matin, à l’heure actuelle ils sont encore en route mais on devrait retrouver Laurent Garbolino 3eme, Remi Borrion 4ème, Romain Lesueur 5 ème et Valentin Van Overloop 6ème.Le grand bal des arrivées est lancé, ce qui veut dire quarts de 2h de sommeil pour nos Race Angels jusqu’à Vendredi soir. Sergio et Jacques vont pouvoir enchaîner les cafés / glaces grâce à Fastclub et aux Glaces Romane.
Le CP2 lui ne désempli pas et nos lanternes rouges vont attaquer la chaîne des Pyrénées. Place à la nuit à présent la stratégie laisse place à la survie pour rallier la finish line.Encore félicitations aux vainqueurs qui nous ont encore tenu en haleine pendant ces 3 jours.

BikingMan Euskadi 2023 – Day 3

Wednesday is children’s day, but above all it’s the day when the first riders finish this BikingMan euskadi.
Sébastien Pailly’s strategy paid off, as he managed to pull away from Laurianne Plaçais between CP2 and the finish, and was first at the top of the Tourmalet, where he never relinquished the lead. He finished in 55hrs 45mins after a very solid finish, worthy of a cyclosportive pace. For her part, Laurianne took a magnificent second place and the women’s victory, but she didn’t try to fight harder than that for the win. With the championship at stake, she put herself beyond the reach of Laurent Garbolino’s 3rd place and intelligently managed the end of the race so as to make as little headway as possible towards the grand finale of the X in Morocco. She is currently the clear leader of the 2023 championship, a historic achievement on the BikingMan.
The chasing pack has split up slightly, but the names are not known until Tuesday morning. At the moment, they are still on the road, but we should find Laurent Garbolino 3rd, Remi Borrion 4th, Romain Lesueur 5th and Valentin Van Overloop 6th.
The big arrivals ball has started, which means 2-hour shifts of sleep for our Race Angels until Friday evening. Sergio and Jacques will be able to enjoy one coffee and ice cream after another, thanks to Fastclub and Glaces Romane.
As for CP2, it won’t be deserted and our red lanterns will be attacking the Pyrenees chain. It’s now night time, and strategy is giving way to survival as we make our way to the finish line.
Congratulations once again to the winners, who have kept us on our toes for the last 3 days.

La troisième édition du BikingMan AURA se déroule du 7 au 12 août 2023. Cette course d’ultracyclisme en autonomie s’élance sur un parcours de 1 000 km à travers. Depuis la Drôme, les participants exploreront le plus vaste stratovolcan d’Europe. La région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes est un spectacle grandiose avec un parcours d’une variété géographique rare. Ils découvriront les cols mythiques du Puy Mary (1589m), du Grand Colombier (1498m) ainsi que la redoutable trilogie de la Chartreuse pour terminer sur le vertigineux massif du Vercors.

Première journée sur le BikingMan AURA

Lundi 07 août 2023, BikingMan France, jour #1

Dans la fraîcheur de la nuit et l’excitation avant le départ, ce sont près de 120 participants qui se réunissent sur la ligne de départ à Beaumont les Valence pour la grande aventure du BkingMan AURA 2023. 

Dès la première matinée, les coureurs doivent faire face à un parcours très exigeant en Ardèche, avant notamment l’ascension du Mont Gerbier de Jonc. Il n’y a pas un mètre de plat sur cette première partie. La difficulté du parcours étire les participants naturellement. La fraîcheur est de mise, mais le vent vient rajouter de la difficulté au parcours.

À l’avant, Emilien Mottet accélère et distance progressivement un groupe d’une dizaine de poursuivants. Les paysages du Lac de Naussac seront l’occasion d’une pause pour certains, mais certainement pas pour la tête de course qui vise le CP. Les coureurs font leur entrée dans le Cantal sous un soleil qui réchauffe timidement l’air. 

Au bout de 9h29 de course, Emilien Mottet arrive au CP1 au km257, à plus de 26 km/h de moyenne. Il garde une avance d’une quinzaine de kilomètres sur Guillaume PEYRONNET, Lorris PASQUIER qui a réduit l’allure dans le vent pour préserver ses genoux, Antoine DUMONT, Jérémie ALLINGER,  Alexandre MEURILLON, Guillaume ESCHARD ou encore Maximilien COUVREUR. 

Ce dernier gère sa course pour inscrire un maximum de points dans l’optique de remporter le classement général de la série BikingMan 2023. 

En fin d’après-midi, la tête de course franchit le Pas de Peyrol, sommet le plus haut de cette épreuve.

À l’arrière, Guillaume PINIER (647) est parti seul et 5 heures après le départ, suite au problème mécanique de son collègue de pair qui a cassé un rayon dès le départ. Elodie DEROOSE est notre lanterne rouge en gérant son effort pour se rapprocher du CP1.

The third BikingMan AURA takes place from 7 to 12 August 2023. This self-supported ultra-cycling race sets off on a 1,000 km route across the Drôme. From the Drôme, participants will explore Europe’s largest stratovolcano. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is a spectacular sight, with a route offering a rare geographical variety. They’ll discover the mythical cols of Puy Mary (1589m) and Grand Colombier (1498m), as well as the fearsome Chartreuse trilogy, finishing on the vertiginous Vercors massif.

First day on the BikingMan AURA

Monday 07 August 2023, BikingMan France, day #1

In the cool of the night and the excitement before the start, almost 120 participants gathered at the start line in Beaumont les Valence for the great adventure of the BkingMan AURA 2023.

From the very first morning, the runners have to face a very demanding course in the Ardèche, before climbing Mont Gerbier de Jonc in particular. There’s not a metre of flat on this first section. The difficulty of the route naturally stretches the participants. It’s cool, but the wind adds to the difficulty of the route.

At the front, Emilien Mottet accelerated and gradually pulled away from a group of around ten chasers. The scenery around Lake Naussac provided an opportunity for some riders to take a break, but certainly not for the leaders, who were aiming for the CP. The riders enter the Cantal under a sun that is timidly warming the air.

After 9 hours 29 minutes of racing, Emilien Mottet reached CP1 at km 257, averaging over 26 kph. He still had a lead of around fifteen kilometres over Guillaume PEYRONNET, Lorris PASQUIER, who reduced his pace in the wind to save his knees, Antoine DUMONT, Jérémie ALLINGER, Alexandre MEURILLON, Guillaume ESCHARD and Maximilien COUVREUR.

The latter managed his race to score as many points as possible with a view to winning the overall classification of the BikingMan 2023 series.

At the end of the afternoon, the race leaders crossed the Pas de Peyrol, the highest peak of the event.

At the rear, Guillaume PINIER (647) set off alone and 5 hours after the start, following a mechanical problem with his peer who broke a spoke at the start. Elodie DEROOSE is our red lantern, managing her effort to get closer to CP1.

Deuxième journée sur le BikingMan AURA

Mardi 08 août 2023, BikingMan France, jour #2

En fin de journée, les températures sont redescendues tandis que les concurrents se sont lancés dans la nuit. C’est dans la nuit que Maximilien Couvreur, en tête du championnat BikingMan 2023, est contraint à l’abandon sur problème gastrique. 

Emilien MOTTET continue de mener la danse devant un groupe d’une dizaine de concurrents. Dans la fraîcheur du matin, les coureurs ont traversé les Dombes, la seule partie plate du parcours avant le CP2 et un dernier tronçon très vertical. Emilien MOTTET est le premier à atteindre le CP2 en 27h04 soit 24,9km/h de moyenne. Derrière lui, Jérémie ALLINGER a gardé une pression constante tout au long de la nuit pour remonter de la neuvième à la deuxième place. Il a limité ses arrêts pour tenter de rester au contact. Il atteint le CP2 en 29h33, devant Alexandre MEURILLON, Lorris PASQUIER, Antoine DUMONT et Guillaume ESCHARD qui se succèdent en moins de 20 minutes au CP2. La course au podium est donc très dense avant le Col de Portes et le Grand Colombier.

Dans le Grand Colombier, seuls les premiers arrivent à passer les pentes à 24% en restant sur le vélo, plus de 730 km après le départ. Pour la majorité des participants, il faudra marcher pour gravir les kilomètres les plus raides avant le sommet.

À l’approche de la trilogie de Chartreuse (Col du Granier, Col du Cucheron, Col de Porte) le podium semble se dessiner avec Emilien MOTTET toujours en tête, devant Jérémie ALLINGER et Antoine DUMONT. Lorris PASQUIER et Alexandre MEURILLON complètent le Top 5, mais rien ne garantit que la Chartreuse, puis le Vercors dans la nuit ne viendront pas rebattre les cartes d’ici l’arrivée.

Au CP1, Elodie DEROOSE a eu la persévérance et le courage de rouler dans la nuit pour atteindre le checkpoint. Devant elle, la majeur partie des participants s’étend du Parc Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne en direction aux Dombes. Le premier tiers des participants vise le CP2 aujourd’hui ou dans la nuit.

Cette deuxième journée aura été marquée par des écarts de températures très importants avec seulement 2°C au plus haut en altitude aux petites heures, et plus de 25°C au soleil dans l’après-midi. Un grand écart thermique qui vient mettre à rude épreuve des corps fatigués par la difficulté de ce magnifique parcours et par le manque de sommeil.

Second day on the BikingMan AURA

Tuesday 08 August 2023, BikingMan France, day #2

At the end of the day, the temperatures dropped and the competitors set off into the night. It was during the night that Maximilien Couvreur, leading the BikingMan 2023 championship, was forced to retire due to a stomach problem.

Emilien MOTTET continued to lead the way ahead of a group of around ten competitors. In the cool of the morning, the riders crossed the Dombes, the only flat part of the course before CP2 and a very vertical final section. Emilien MOTTET was the first to reach CP2 in 27h04, an average speed of 24.9km/h. Behind him, Jérémie ALLINGER kept up the pressure throughout the night to climb from ninth to second place. He limited his stops to try and stay in touch. He reached CP2 in 29 hours 33 minutes, ahead of Alexandre MEURILLON, Lorris PASQUIER, Antoine DUMONT and Guillaume ESCHARD, all of whom reached CP2 in less than 20 minutes. The race for the podium is therefore very tight before the Col de Portes and the Grand Colombier.

On the Grand Colombier, only the first riders managed to get over the 24% gradient while still on their bikes, more than 730 km after the start. Most of the participants will have to walk to climb the steepest kilometres before the summit.

As we approach the Chartreuse trilogy (Col du Granier, Col du Cucheron, Col de Porte), the podium seems to be taking shape with Emilien MOTTET still in the lead, ahead of Jérémie ALLINGER and Antoine DUMONT. Lorris PASQUIER and Alexandre MEURILLON complete the Top 5, but there’s no guarantee that the Chartreuse and then the Vercors in the night won’t reshuffle the cards between now and the finish.

At CP1, Elodie DEROOSE had the perseverance and courage to drive through the night to reach the checkpoint. Ahead of her, the bulk of the participants stretched from the Parc Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne towards the Dombes. The first third of the participants are aiming for CP2 today or during the night.

This second day will have been marked by huge temperature differences, with only 2°C at the highest altitude in the early hours, and over 25°C in the sun in the afternoon. A huge difference in temperatures that will put a strain on bodies tired by the difficulty of this magnificent route and by the lack of sleep.

Troisième journée sur le BikingMan AURA

Mercredi 09 août 2023, BikingMan France, jour #3

La bataille pour la victoire et le podium a été dense pendant toute la nuit. Avec l’ascension de la trilogie de Chartreuse dans la soirée, avant de s’élancer de nuit dans le Vercors pour une traversée vertigineuse, le parcours promettait un final explosif.

Au terme de ces 1000km, Emilien Mottet conclut sa domination en remportant le BikingMan AURA dans un temps record de 47h37. Il devance le belge Antoine Dumont en 50h04 qui a réussi à revenir sur Jérémie Allinger, longtemps en deuxième position. Jérémie termine à la troisième place du podium, à seulement 11 minutes de la deuxième place.

Guillaume Peyronnet a très bien géré sa nuit pour gagner 4 places depuis le CP2, pour prendre la 4ème place en 51h47, devant Alexandre Meurillon qui complète le Top 5 en 52h27.

Pendant la nuit, le top 20 avait passé le CP2 et le Grand Colombier pour s’élancer sur ce final très exigeant. À la différence de la tête de course, ces coureurs ont pu pleinement profiter des magnifiques paysages du Vercors et de la vertigineuse Combe Laval. Mais pour atteindre l’arrivée, il faudra arriver au bout de l’enchaînement de la montée de Malleval-en-Vercors, le Col de la Machine, avant de finir par le Col des Limouches, pour basculer dans la descente vers l’arrivée à Beaumont lès Valence.

Ce troisième jour est encore marqué par de grands écarts de température avec seulement 13°C dans le Vercors, contre les 32°C du côté de Grenoble. Pour certains, ce fut le jour de trop avec des tendinites aux genoux ou au tendon d’achille, les pentes ne laissant aucun répit pour récupérer. La moindre erreur de braquet peut être fatale sur 19,000m de dénivelé positif.

La première paire Cédric LE PENNEDU (646) & Guillaume PINIER (647) devrait arriver dans la soirée. Chez les femmes, Emilie Clisson continue sa progression en gérant parfaitement son effort. Elle a déjà effectué 700 km et atteint le CP2 où elle reprend des forces pour le final.

Third day on the BikingMan AURA

The battle for victory and the podium was intense throughout the night. With the ascent of the Chartreuse trilogy in the evening, before setting off at night into the Vercors for a vertiginous crossing, the route promised an explosive finale.

At the end of the 1000km, Emilien Mottet concluded his domination by winning the BikingMan AURA in a record time of 47h37. He finished ahead of Belgium’s Antoine Dumont in 50h04, who managed to catch up with Jérémie Allinger, who had been in second place for a long time. Jérémie finished third on the podium, just 11 minutes behind second place.

Guillaume Peyronnet managed his night very well, gaining 4 places since CP2 to take 4th place in 51h47, ahead of Alexandre Meurillon who rounded off the Top 5 in 52h27.

During the night, the top 20 had passed CP2 and the Grand Colombier to set off on this very demanding final. Unlike the frontrunners, these riders were able to take full advantage of the magnificent scenery of the Vercors and the vertiginous Combe Laval. But to reach the finish, they will have to complete the climb up to Malleval-en-Vercors, the Col de la Machine, before finishing on the Col de Limouches, before heading downhill to the finish in Beaumont lès Valence.

This third day was again marked by huge temperature differences, with only 13°C in the Vercors, compared with 32°C in Grenoble. For some, it was one day too many, with tendinitis in the knees or achilles tendon, as the slopes left no respite for recovery. The slightest gearing error can be fatal on an 19,000m climb.

The first pair, Cédric LE PENNEDU (646) & Guillaume PINIER (647), should arrive later this evening. In the women’s category, Emilie Clisson continues to make progress, managing her effort perfectly. She has already covered 700 km and reached CP2, where she is building up her strength for the finish.

Alors que les températures sont considérablement remontées dans tous les massifs montagneux de la région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, la « 2ème course » a lieu pour le milieu et la queue de peloton des ultracyclistes. Chacun tente d’avaler kilomètre après kilomètre les difficultés du parcours pour réussir à rejoindre le tapis rouge de la ligne d’arrivée avec le grand final: le massif de la trilogie de la Chartreuse et le Vercors. Dans la journée, notre première équipe est arrivée: Arnaud et Thomas de Belgique. Dans la nuit, la paire féminine Josie et Romana ainsi que notre 1ère féminine: Émilie Clisson sont arrivées sur Beaumont-Lès-Valence. 67 ultracyclistes sont rentrés au bercail, il en reste encore 26 qui sont en route pour arriver avant le repas de clôture de l’épreuve ce soir !

100 hours since the race start  – The race into the race
While temperatures have risen considerably in all the mountain ranges of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the « 2nd race » is taking place for the middle and back of the pack of ultracyclists. Each rider tries to overcome the difficulties of the course kilometre after kilometre to reach the red carpet of the finish line with the grand finale: the Chartreuse trilogy massif and the Vercors. During the day, our first team arrived: Arnaud and Thomas from Belgium. During the night, the women’s pair Josie and Romana and our 1st woman: Émilie Clisson arrived in Beaumont-Lès-Valence. 67 ultracyclists have returned home, with 26 still on their way to arrive before the event’s closing dinner this evening!

Première journée sur le BikingMan Portugal.

Dès le départ, le peloton s’est étiré avec des écarts plus importants que d’habitude. La tête de course est partie très vite et rapidement une centaine de kilomètres séparaient la tête de l’arrière de la course.

Sur le papier l’étape du Portugal est celle avec le moins de dénivelé.

Certains ont pris le départ en pensant que ce serait l’étape la plus simple du calendrier, la plus roulante. Erreur.

Ce BikingMan Portugal est une succession de pétards avec des ascensions raides et des descentes avec vent de tournant ainsi qu’un revêtement en mauvais état. Ce n’est pas la manche la plus verticale mais surement la plus usante.

Les coureurs viennent de découvrir le vent portugais qui use les organismes. A ce vent, il a fallu ajouter la chaleur accablante. Alors que la plupart des coureurs sortent de l’hiver, la transition avec les 40°C d’aujourd’hui aura été violente.

Huit litres d’eau pour Maximilien entre le départ et le CP1. L’eau est une denrée rare car le pays souffre d’une sécheresse importante avec la plupart des lacs à sec.

Des températures encore plus importantes sont attendues demain dans les terres.

Côté course, on assiste à deux stratégies différentes:

D’un côté la stratégie « cyclosport » : ceux qui sont partis à bloc avec 28km/h de moyenne sur 280km et 4000m de D+.

Même si tous avaient le sourire au checkpoint 1 (CP1), nous avons pu déceler certains éléments métaboliques qui ne trompent pas, notamment la transpiration sur les maillots.

Tandis que Sébastien Bouchet avait le maillot maculé de sel, Benoit Merchez et Laurianne Plaçais semblent avoir gérer leur effort pour limiter la transpiration sur cette première journée.

A travers ces signaux ainsi qu’avec les attitudes sur le vélo, nous pouvons nous risquer à dire que certains sont partis à fond, soit pour prendre l’ascendant psychologique, soit pour tenir la tête et ne pas prendre trop d’écart.

Nous avons pu le constater avec Jean Guérin qui commence à payer ses effort jusqu’au CP1, Sébastien Bouchet et Maxime Prieur (qui doit commencer à questionner ses choix de matériel, notamment niveau braquet car il n’à qu’une plaque de 52 dents et pas de petit plateau sur son vélo de chrono).

Plus en retrait, nous pouvons voir Rémi Borrion, Benoit Merchez, Laurianne Plaçais, Philippe Coussy et Thomas Dupin qui attendent sagement avec leur carabine que la concurrence commence à tituber devant.

Laurianne vient (cela devient une tradition ;-)) perturber ces messieurs. Reste à savoir si d’avoir une femme parmi le top 10 leur met le doute, la pression, ou s’ils la considèrent comme une adversaire comme un autre.

On se souvient de Clément Clisson qui était assez confiant sur Euskadi jusqu’au moment où il a vu le nom de Laurianne sur la start-list.

En tête, Sébastien Bouchet et Maxime Prieur se livrent une bataille engagée.

Est-ce de l’intox ou assistons-nous à une joute qui va les pousser à s’arrêter dormir ?

Dans le cas où ils gardent un tel rythme jusqu’au bout de la course, ce sera une performance incroyable, mais comme disait Eddy Merckx: « La course n’est pas finie tant qu’elle n’est pas terminée ».

Nous attaquons la nuit, le « money time » de ce premier jour.

Qui arrivera à pédaler sans se reposer ou qui au contraire sera contraint de s’arrêter dormir ?

C’est demain matin que nous constaterons quelle stratégie a été payante : l’attaque ou la gestion.

Les KM à venir s’annoncent difficiles car les possibilités de se ravitailler sont limitées avec la nuit qui arrive.

Après le CP2, la zone est déserte. En plus du physique, il va falloir être très malin et surtout très prévoyant pour arriver à trouver le carburant nécessaire et ne pas tomber en panne sèche au milieu de nulle part. L’accès aux ravitos au Portugal fait parti des défis de la course.

Demain, le programme s’annonce solide avec la région désertique de l’Alentejo et de fortes chaleurs pour la tête de la course, ce sera un véritable « game changer ».
Cette seconde partie de la course devrait être une journée ventée et chaude sur la côte, passant par le point le plus à l’ouest de l’Europe: Sagres.

First day at BikingMan Portugal

From the start, the peloton stretched out with larger gaps than usual. The lead group went very fast and quickly a hundred km separated the lead from the rear of the race.

On paper, the stage in Portugal is the one with the least difference in altitude.

Some riders went to the start thinking that it would be the easiest stage of the calendar, the most rolling. Not so.

This BikingMan Portugal is a succession of bangers with steep climbs and windy descents and a poor surface. It’s not the most vertical round but surely the most tiring.

The riders have just discovered the Portuguese wind, which wears out their bodies. To this wind, we had to add the scorching heat. While most of the riders are coming out of winter, the transition to the 40°C of today was violent.

Eight litres of water for Maximilien between the start and CP1. Water is a rare commodity as the country is suffering from a severe drought with most of the lakes dry.

Even higher temperatures are expected tomorrow inland.

On the race side, there are two different strategies.

On the one hand, the « cyclosport » strategy: those who started at 28km/h average speed over 280km and 4000m of D+.

Even if all of them were smiling at CP1, we could detect some metabolic elements that don’t deceive, notably the sweat on the jerseys.

While Sébastien Bouchet had his jersey stained with salt, Benoit Merchez and Laurianne Plaçais seemed to have managed their effort to limit the perspiration on this first day.

From these signals and from the attitudes on the bike, we can say that some of them have started at full speed, either to take the psychological lead, or to hold the lead and not to get too much of a gap.

We have seen this with Jean Guérin who starts to pay for his efforts until CP1, Sébastien Bouchet and Maxime Prieur (who must start to question his choice of material, especially concerning the gearing because he only has a 52 teeth plate and no small chainring on his time trial bike).

Further back, we can see Rémi Borrion, Benoit Merchez, Laurianne Plaçais, Philippe Coussy and Thomas Dupin who are wisely waiting with their rifles for the competition to start staggering in front.

Laurianne moreover who as usual comes to disturb these gentlemen. It remains to be seen whether having a woman in the top 10 puts them in doubt, puts pressure on them, or whether they consider her as an opponent like any other.

We remember Clément Clisson who was quite confident in Euskadi until he saw Laurianne’s name on the start list.

In the lead, Sébastien Bouchet and Maxime Prieur are engaged in a battle.

Is this a hoax or are we witnessing a joust that will push them to stop sleeping?

If they keep such a rhythm until the end of the race, they will have to stop.

Deuxième jour sur BikingMan Portugal

Mardi 2 mai 2023, BikingMan Portugal, jour #2

La première nuit a creusé les écarts à tous les niveaux de la course. Sébastien Bouchet tient son rythme et fait cavalier seul à l’avant de la course. Au petit matin, il arrive au CP2 situé au km 664 après 24h37 de course. Le rythme est alors de 27 km/h de moyenne, arrêts inclus.

À la seconde place, c’est désormais Laurianne Plaçais qui est remontée, après un départ beaucoup plus prudent. La vice-championne du BikingMan 2022 gère parfaitement son effort et prend position pour le podium. Derrière elle, Rémi Borrion, Maxime Prieur et Thomas Dupin se livrent bataille pour rester au contact de la tête de course.

Parmi les faits de course, on regrette l’abandon de Denis Morino qui a chuté dans la section gravel avant le CP1 et qui s’est fracturé le poignet. C’est la fin de l’aventure portugaise pour son duo constitué avec Fabrice Hupel.

Au CP1, les arrivées se succèdent toute la nuit, avec des coureurs bien heureux de pouvoir s’abriter du vent redoutable de Sagres. Ils ont pu profiter d’un court réconfort et d’un plat chaud avant un repos bien mérité. Puis, il est déjà l’heure de repartir à la lueur des lampes frontales en direction du Nord, vers Vila Viçosa.

À l’arrière de la course, on gère son effort pour arriver avant la fermeture du CP1 à 14h. Marco Locatelli (bib 46) et Olivier Smets (bib 60) y abandonnent la course, épuisés. Tous les autres participants encore en course auront réussi à tenir le délai et à reprendre la route vers le Nord du pays.

En milieu de journée, la tête de course atteint le km800 en redescendant vers le Sud du pays. Sébastien Bouchet dispose d’une avance confortable sur ses trois poursuivants Rémi Borrion, Maxime Prieur et Laurianne Plaçais.

Les challengers, entre le 10ème et la 20ème positions arrivent les uns après les autres au CP2. Certains font une sieste, d’autres prennent un repas rapide, mais tous ont besoin de s’hydrater abondamment et refaire le plein d’eau pour affronter la suite de la journée.

Pour cette deuxième après-midi de course, la chaleur monte fortement dans l’Alentejo avec 37°C au compteur. Les athlètes qui ont été trop généreux dans l’effort pourraient le payer très cher. Les températures élevées mettent tous les organismes à la limite, que ce soit à l’avant de la course ou à l’arrière.

La chaleur a raison de Sébastien Bouchet qui ne s’est pas ménagé depuis le départ. Le coureur de tête fait un coup de chaud et un petit malaise. Le rythme effréné qu’il a imposé et les conditions climatiques ont fini par entamer ses limites physiques. Il arrive tout de même à remonter sur sa selle après s’être reposé au frais une heure, pour tenter de conserver sa faible avance sur les 200 derniers kilomètres. Rémi Borrion, en 2ème position, peut encore viser la victoire, tout comme Maxime Prieur 3ème et Laurianne Plaçais 4ème. Tout se joue sur la gestion de la fatigue et de la chaleur.

Mickael Juignet (bib 38), dans le Top 10 après 680 km de course, fait une erreur de parcours, tandis qu’à l’arrière Xavier Juignet (bib 39) se résout à abandonner après avoir passé le CP1.

À l’avant, les kilomètres défilent et les positions se figent. Sébastien Bouchet montre une incroyable résistance malgré les efforts de Rémi Borrion (2e) qui le talonne. Maxime Prieur et Laurianne Plaçais bataillent pour aller chercher la troisième place du podium. Les dernières grandes difficultés entre les km900 et 950 devraient être le juge de paix.

Derrière le quatuor de tête, à une quarantaine de kilomètres, on retrouve trois concurrents Mickael Houtteville (bib 48), Thomas Dupin (bib 24) et Benoît Merchez (bib 47) qui ont des allures proches. Les monts à l’approche de Faro devraient les départager pour compléter le Top 5 du classement de ce BikingMan Portugal.

Les premières arrivées sont attendues dans la soirée, à Faro, après 1005 km d’effort en luttant avec le vent, le relief et la chaleur.

Day 2 on BikingMan Portugal

Tuesday 2 May 2023, BikingMan Portugal, day 2

The first night widened the gaps at all levels of the race. Sébastien Bouchet kept his pace and rode alone at the front of the race. In the early morning, he arrived at CP2 located at km 664 after 24 hours and 37 minutes of racing. The average speed was 27 km/h, including stops.

In second place, it was Laurianne Plaçais who was back in the race, after a much more careful start. The BikingMan 2022 runner-up managed her effort perfectly and took her place on the podium. Behind her, Rémi Borrion, Maxime Prieur and Thomas Dupin are fighting to stay in contact with the lead.

Among the race facts, we regret the withdrawal of Denis Morino who crashed in the gravel section before CP1 and broke his wrist. This is the end of the Portuguese adventure for his duo formed with Fabrice Hupel.

At CP1, the finishers followed each other all night long, with the riders very happy to be able to shelter from the famous Sagres wind. They were able to enjoy a short comfort and a hot meal before a well deserved rest. Then, it was already time to set off again by the light of the headlamps towards the North, towards Vila Viçosa.

At the back of the race, we manage our effort to arrive before the closing of CP1 at 2pm. Marco Locatelli (bib 46) and Olivier Smets (bib 60) abandon the race, exhausted. All the other participants still in the race managed to keep the deadline and to get back on the road to the North of the country.

In the middle of the day, the head of the race reaches km 800 on the way back to the South of the country. Sébastien Bouchet who has a comfortable lead over his three chasers Rémi Borrion, Maxime Prieur and Laurianne Plaçais.

The challengers, between 10th and 20th position, arrive one after the other at CP2. Some take a nap, others have a quick meal, but all of them need to hydrate and refill their water tanks to face the rest of the day.

On this second afternoon of the race, the heat rises sharply in the Alentejo with 37°C on the clock. Athletes who have been too generous in their efforts could pay dearly. The high temperatures put all the organisms at the limit, whether at the front of the race or at the back.

Sébastien Bouchet, who has been working hard since the start, has been beaten by the heat. The lead rider gets a hot spell and feels a bit sick. The frantic pace he set and the weather conditions finally took their toll on his physical limits. He managed to get back on his saddle to try to keep his small lead over the last 200 km. Rémi Borrion, in 2nd position, can still aim for the victory, as well as Maxime Prieur 3rd and Laurianne Plaçais 4th. Everything will depend on the management of the fatigue and the heat.

Troisième jour sur le BikingMan Portugal

Mercredi 3 mai 2023, BikingMan Portugal, jour #3

La nuit de mardi à mercredi fut riche avec l’arrivée victorieuse de Sébastien Bouchet qui a géré toute la fin du parcours suite à un coup de chaud survenu à un peu plus de 200km de la « finish-line ». Le peloton des challengers Rémi Borrion, Maxime Prieur, Laurianne Plaçais s’est étiré, chacun adoptant des stratégies différentes pour avancer malgré la chaleur accablante, le vent et cette succession de côtes dures menant vers l’algarve.

Rémi Borrion, 2ème aura eu beau s’employer il n’aura pas réussi à rentrer sur Sébastien Bouchet qui était pourtant devenu une proie facile. Maxime Prieur vient compléter le podium, une superbe 3ème place même si il espérait, la vieille du départ, qu’il ferait tomber le record de l’épreuve avec son vélo de contre la montre.

Côté féminin, Laurianne Plaçais, comme à son habitude, vient semer la pagaille dans le classement hommes et se classe 4ème à quelques minutes de la tête de course. Comme sur les autres manches l’an passé, elle remporte haut la main le classement femmes.

Les arrivées s’enchainent à présent à rythme régulier sur la finish line en plein cœur de Faro, l’une des plus belle ligne d’arrivée du championnat, au cœur de la vieille ville. Il faut souligner pour cela l’indéfectible soutien de la municipalité de Faro: « in BikingMan we trust ».

Dans la journée, nous aurons assisté notamment à l’arrivée de la première paire composée de Cédric Sachet & Gwenaël Pageau.

Dans la série galère, Maximilien Couvreur arrivera avec un beau détour de 110km et Jean Guérin, qui avait littéralement dynamité le début de course, arrivera une douzaine d’heures après le vainqueur.

Ce mercredi est ponctué par un balai d’arrivées qui durera jusqu’à vendredi, mais les concurrents sont encore très nombreux entre le CP2 et l’arrivée à souffrir dans ce désert cabossé jusqu’à Faro. Les possibilités de ravitaillements sont rares et la chaleur est toujours aussi accablante.

Le mode survie est activé pour la plupart des rouleurs nocturnes, tandis que d’autres vont profiter pleinement de ces dernières heures de course pour contempler des paysages hors du commun et aller à la rencontre des Portugais sur ce dernier tronçon avec les nombreuses cités fortifiées telles que Monsaraz.

Actuellement 5 coureurs sont encore attendus au CP2, il leur restera 2 jours pour boucler les 340km jusqu’à l’arrivée.

Day 3 on BikingMan Portugal

Wednesday May 3rd 2023, BikingMan Portugal, day 3

Tuesday night was rich with the victorious finish of Sébastien Bouchet who managed the whole of the final part of the race after a heat stroke a little more than 200km from the finish line. The peloton of the challengers Rémi Borrion, Maxime Prieur, Laurianne Plaçais was stretched out, each one adopting different strategies to advance despite the overwhelming heat, the wind and this succession of indigestible climbs leading to the Algarve.

Rémi Borrion, 2nd, had to work hard to catch Sébastien Bouchet, who had become an easy prey. Maxime Prieur completes the podium, a superb 3rd place even if the day before the start he had announced that he would break the record of the event with his time trial bike.

On the women’s side Laurianne Plaçais as usual comes and makes a mess of the men’s classification and finishes 4th a few minutes behind the leader, as in the other rounds last year she wins the women’s classification hands down.

The finish line in the heart of Faro, the most beautiful finish line of the championship, in the heart of the old town, is now a regular rhythm, and we must underline the unfailing support of the municipality, « in bikingman we trust ».

During the day we saw the arrival of the first pair of Cédric Sachet & Gwenaël Pageau

Maximilien Couvreur arrived with a nice diversions of 110km and Jean Guérin, who had literally dynamited the beginning of the race, arrived a dozen hours after the winner.

This Wednesday is punctuated by a sweep of arrivals that will last until Friday, but the competitors are still very numerous between CP2 and the finish to suffer in this bumpy desert until Faro. The possibilities to refuel are rare and the heat is still overwhelming.

The survival mode has been activated for most of the night riders, whereas others will take full advantage of these last hours of the race to contemplate the extraordinary landscapes and to meet the Portuguese on this last section.

Currently 5 riders are still expected at CP2, they will have 2 days left to complete the 340km to the finish.

Quatrième jour sur le BikingMan Portugal

Ce quatrième jour sur le BikingMan Portugal ne fait pas exception: si sur Faro un vent parfois frais nécessite le port d’un petit pull à l’ombre, entre le CP2 et l’arrivée, c’est toujours la même combinaison canicule et vent. Ce vent qui vous assèche la bouche dès que vous devez respirer en plein effort; la subtilité est qu’il n’y a pas d’eau non plus !

Si les premiers ont souffert et ont poussé les machines très fort, l’heure est à l’exploration pour les derniers sur ce tronçon. Sur un BikingMan, on a hâte que ça se termine, mais on est tellement bien sur la route qu’on prolongerait bien ces instants suspendus, hors de notre confort habituel. C’est ce que viennent chercher les finishers: l’expérience, le défi, la découverte de ses limites.

Les vétérans comme Bruno Pallierne, Cyril Oulmi et Justin Hug (qui a au passage disputé l’épreuve avec le même maillot que l’an passé lors de son crash malheureux) arrivent au compte goutte. Tous trouvent cette fin de parcours encore plus difficile car l’Algarve et ces dénivelés surprennent tout le monde dans ce final, mais tous avouent que dans ce sens cette partie du circuit est superbe.

Le podium des équipes est désormais complet et la nouvelle lanterne rouge  Zenobia De Jongh est à 200km de l’arrivée. L’excellente nouvelle de cette édition 2023 est que tous devraient finir dans les délais et être de la fête à la soirée de clôture vendredi soir.

Demain marquera la grande fête de la ligne d’arrivée avec tous les finishers là pour applaudir les derniers arrivants.

Day 4 on BikingMan Portugal

Thursday May 4th 2023, BikingMan Portugal, day #4

This fourth day on the BikingMan Portugal is no exception: if in Faro a sometimes fresh wind requires the wearing of a small sweater in the shade, between CP2 and the finish, it is always the same heat wave and wind combination. This wind that dries your mouth as soon as you have to breathe in full effort; the subtlety is that there is no water either!

If the first suffered and pushed the machines very hard, it’s time to explore for the last on this section. On a BikingMan, we can’t wait for it to end, but we’re so good on the road that we would extend these suspended moments, out of our usual comfort. This is what finishers are looking for: the experience, the challenge, the discovery of one’s limits.

Veterans like Bruno Pallierne, Cyril Oulmi and Justin Hug (who also competed in the event with the same jersey as last year when he crashed) are trickling in. Everyone finds this end of the course even more difficult because the Algarve and these elevations surprise everyone in this final, but everyone admits that in this sense this part of the circuit is superb.

The teams’ podium is now complete and the new red lantern Zenobia De Jongh is 200km from the finish. The excellent news for this 2023 edition is that everyone should finish on time and be part of the closing party on Friday evening.

Tomorrow will mark the big party at the finish line with all the finishers there to applaud the latest arrivals.
