After a remarkable introduction to BikingMan which ended with a superb 2nd place in the 555 of Morocco, Pierre Rolland is committed to an ultra-cycling program for 2026 with several events from the BikingMan championship.
On its busy calendar, we can find participations in 555 Serra Geral, in Brazil, and the IncaDivide, the myth of Peru, for a stage which will combine visual spectacle in the middle of grandiose environments and a tough field with the return of Rodney Sonnco, first BikingMan champion, in his native lands.
On the set of Sport en France, accompanied by Axel, Cédric and Laurianne, our 2023 champion, they discuss together the practice of ultracycling and the events of the 2026 BikingMan calendar, with the new HALF formats in Corsica, Alpes-Maritimes and AURA, and the return of the IncaDivide holy grail.

Brazil opens the 2026 season with the 3rd edition of the 555 Serra Geral, a course amidst the superb terrain of the provinces of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
Start of the event Saturday March 27th at 5am. local time (9am. French time).

Participating in an ultracycling race is always an adventure full of challenges and surprises.

BikingMan Alpes-Maritimes is an intense race through the French Alps. The route, the weather conditions, and the demanding ascents all contributed to making this experience an unforgettable memory.

 

Summary of Day 3: Valberg and the Col de la Couillole

 

Welcome to the third day of BikingMan Alpes-Maritimes. We are in Valberg, the location of checkpoint 2 and the finish line. Before reaching this point, we had to cross the Col de la Couillole.

Early in the morning, we met participants tackling this ascent after a rainy night.

 

 

Ascending the Col de la Couillole: In Difficult Conditions

The previous night had been marked by torrential rains, making conditions particularly challenging. Several participants shared their impressions, mentioning the difficulty of cycling in the rain and cold. The climb to the Col de la Couillole, peaking at 1678 meters, was tough after such a rough night. The 17 kilometers of ascent with an average slope of 6% was a real test for the tired legs of the cyclists. Despite this, the first rays of morning sunlight brought a welcome comfort, helping to lift the participants’ spirits.

A small group of cyclists arrived at checkpoint 2 in the morning, sharing their nighttime adventures. They spoke about the difficulty of descending in the rain, the need to brake constantly, and the challenges posed by the extreme weather conditions. Each had a unique story to tell about the trials they had overcome.

 

 

Reflecting on the Route: The Col de la Lombarde

Before discussing the battle for victory, we must look back at the route to the Col de la Lombarde, situated at 2350 meters. This pass was particularly feared due to the torrential rains and freezing cold that accompanied it. Participants faced daunting conditions but showed incredible determination.

 

 

The Race Leaders: Jean-Michel Morin, Lorian Placé, and Harvey Bird

Three ultracyclists stood out at the front of the race: Jean-Michel Morin, Lorian Placé, and the Briton Harvey Bird. They continued their progression, tackling the last cols before the finish line. Jean-Michel Morin took a significant lead, crossing the final ascents with unwavering determination. The Col de Turini, well-known to cycling and motorsport enthusiasts, was one of the last major challenges before the end of the race. At this point, the cyclists had already covered more than 800 kilometers, making each pedal stroke even more demanding.

 

 

Victory for Jean-Michel Morin

Jean-Michel Morin eventually won the BikingMan Alpes-Maritimes, his first victory in the ultracycling world championship. He outpaced Lorian Placé and Harvey Bird, showcasing a remarkable performance despite the tough conditions.

This race was a true test of strength, both physically and mentally. I learned to push my limits, persevere despite difficulties, and appreciate every moment, even the toughest ones. The encounters and lessons from this experience will remain etched in my memory.

 

 

The BikingMan Alpes-Maritimes is more than just a race. It’s an adventure that tests the resilience and determination of every participant. Traversing magnificent landscapes under extreme conditions and crossing daunting cols is an unforgettable experience. For anyone seeking the ultimate ultracycling challenge, this race is a must.

Sri Lanka 2024 is revealed in video with the official presentation by Axel Carion and our partner Sri Lankan Airlines.

In 2024, the pearl of the Indian Ocean that we explored during course reconnaissance in 2022 becomes an official stage of the world series of ultradistance races. With its tropical climate, its delicious and non-technical trails, Sri Lanka is a gem to discover by bike and in particular by gravel.

The warm welcome of the Sri Lankans, the Indian-influenced gastronomy and the country’s magnificent Buddhist sites will soon no longer hold any secrets for the BikingWomen and BikingMen who will take up the challenge.

With around 20% trails and 80% secondary roads, the immersion promises to be spectacular because few adventurers have been able to explore the track on which we worked on gravel.

The Sri Lankan Airlines company is a partner of the event to facilitate access by bicycle to the island.

The 2024 BikingMan calendar continues to be revealed with a live presentation of the 2024 routes.

In 2024, the BikingMan series returns to its origins, to its passion for adventure and exploration by taking you internationally with the return of the Taiwan event, made legendary by the rich documentary of L’Equipe TV, and for a new event with an exotic atmosphere on the wonderful playground that is Sri Lanka, with an event combining gravel and accessible road, ideal entry point to the BikingMan series and an idyllic escape from the winter gloom.

2024 will also be the year of 555, our new gravel format, with new editions in Vercors and in the Alpes-Maritimes and a new event in Brazil, in the province of Santa Catarina, with enchanting gravel and sumptuous landscapes.

Of course, the historic courses will not be neglected, quite the contrary, since the AURA, Alpes-Maritimes (ex-France) and events >Corsica will offer completely revised routes to offer you ever more memorable experiences and explorations.

After 2 years spent in the Alps conquering the most legendary passes in the history of the Tour de France and contemplating the most beautiful peaks of the French mountains, it was time to search a new location for the BikingMan X ! The “X” is the summit of our series, the crown jewel for every ultra cyclist willing to tackle a special event with ingredients you won’t find on other destinations. It is far from being just “the toughest” or the “longest”, this is simply meant to be one of the best ultracycling experience of the BikingMan series.

In 2023, our choice fell on Morocco, a country full of mysteries where Axel bike toured 9 years ago riding across the Atlas Mountains. We have been working with the greatest care on the course to combine physical challenge and a discovery of this spectacular country full of captivating atmospheres. Morocco also hides some of the greatest gravel and secondary roads with an impressive variety of landscapes.

As you probably know with all BikingMan X events, the course will remain secret until the very last minutes before the start, only unveiled during the race briefing, so you discover the places as you ride and get the deepest experience as possible.

But even though we want to keep the race course secret, we couldn’t wait to share with you those gorgeous landscapes we have crossed when doing the reconnaissance of the route a few weeks ago. That’s why Cedric, our beloved filmmaker, has put all his heart into preparing this short teaser (because we shouldn’t show too much anyway) of the adventure that awaits you in Morocco. Enjoy!

And to make this BikingMan X 2023 a unique moment, we’ve given it the place it deserves. The X in Morocco will therefore take place in October to conclude in style a 2023 season that we hope will be just as grandiose.

It has always been important to us that BikingMan be open to as many people as possible. It is with the greatest pleasure that we will share with you tonight at 8pm the replay of the TV set of Sport in France where we had the chance to discuss the subject of parasports and ultracycling.
We are indeed proud to have been able to welcome on several occasions to our events athletes representing handisport such as Stéphane Bahier and Tony Boisblet. They shared during Maxime Gras’ show about their practice of ultradistance cycling.

Stéphane, a one-legged Paralympic athlete, had discovered the BikingMan by the Portugal event before moving on to the BikingMan France, two events which he successfully completed. Tony took part in the 2022 edition of BikingMan France in tandem with his friend Philippe. Together, they completed their adventure in less than 120 hours.

Congratulations to these athletes who are great sources of inspiration through their determination and strength of character.

The Escape Challenge: 200 km / 2,500 m of elevation gain

It’s winter time and it’s always challenging to retain our motivation when it’s cold out there ! A special motivation is always welcome to keep the training volume high to get ready for ultra-distance racing.

We are pleased to announce : the Escape Challenge. This is a challenge accessible to all, to be attempted in total autonomy alone or with a group of friends.

The goal? Encouraging you to try the adventure of ultracycling and long distance rides. It is also a good way to test yourself before embarking on a BikingMan event.

The Escape 200 is a condensed experience with the same distance and elevation ratio as a BikingMan event, which you will attempt over a 24-hour window.

 

Test yourself on a 200 km / 125 miles ride

Everyone remembers their first 200 km on a bike. The Escape is an opportunity to bring this experience to as many people as possible by encouraging the community to get started and test themselves on a long-distance gravel or road outing.

Ultralife is our mantra and it sometimes starts with a simple bike ride…

Each month, a photo contest will select the most inspiring people who have tried the ESCAPE 200 and the community will be able to vote for their favorite shot. The winner of the monthly contest will win a gift.

Warm up well, plan your outing, invite friends and share it with your community!

The Escape challenge rules

  • Ride 200 km over a 24-hour timeframe
  • Climb 2,500 m of elevation gain minimum (the equivalent of 1-day of riding on a BikingMan event)

  • Capture your best moments with pics
  • Post an inspiring picture on Instagram with the tags #Escape200 #BikingMan (the best photos will participate in the monthly photo contest)
  • Share your ride with us once you have completed the challenge using the form below
