Mandatory checkpoints 2History and symbols of the Basque Country
The Basque Country (or Euskal Herria) is a territory of traditions that extends over more than 20,000 km². The French Basque Country (Labourd, Lower Navarre and Soule) represents 15% of the total area of the Basque territory but is full of vertical and legendary climbs.
In the French Basque Country, the mountain largely dominates the landscapes with the Pyrenees in its center which form the natural border between France and Spain. From deep valleys to high pastures, the topography is extremely demanding, even for climbers.
The many villages with typical architecture form human oases in the heart of a wild region where forests, woods, meadows and a very varied climate with abundant rains reign supreme.
The route consists mainly of asphalt roads. A few short sections of gravel will give you a hard time.
We recommend using:
- Road / CX / Gravel Bike
- MINIMUM 28mm tires
- Disc brakes
- Transmission: 50-34 teeth (front) – 11-34 (rear)
For your safety, you are required to bring the following equipment with you in order to participate in the race. The organization will make sure that you are in possession of the mandatory equipment when checking in the athletes and bikes.
- GPS tracker – provided by the organization
- 1x set of 4 spare AAA batteries (ideally lithium) (for the GPS tracker)
- Bike GPS – Wahoo / Garmin type or equivalent
- 1x bicycle helmet
- 1x front light (with permanent mode)
- 1x rear light (with permanent mode)
- 1x bicycle pump (mandatory even when using tubeless tires)
- 1x inner tube + 1x repair kit (patch + glue + tire changer – mandatory even when using tubeless tires)
- 1x set of spare brake pads
- Water bottles for a minimum capacity of 1.5l of water (1x 750ml water bottle provided to each athlete by the organisation)
- 1x pair of gloves
- Reflective clothing (eg: Audax vest, yellow safety vest…)
- 1x survival blanket
- 1x jacket or jersey with light rain protection, ideally with a hood
- Sunglasses with UV protection
- Mobile phone and charging device (eg: dynamo or USB battery)
- Identity document + paper or digital copy of it (ex: keep a copy of your passport or identity card on your personal cloud)

Find useful information on the logistics and schedule of the race below. The race village will be located in Anglet, near Biarritz airport.
- Check-in: Saturday September 2nd – from 2pm to 6pm and Sunday September 3rd from 9am to 12pm.
- Pre-race briefing: September 3rd at 2pm.
- Race Start: Monday September 4th at 5am.
