Starting from the Drôme region, you will explore the largest stratovolcano in Europe. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is a grandiose spectacle with a course of rare geographical variety. You will discover the mythical passes of Puy Mary (1589m), Grand Colombier (1498m) as well as the dreadful trilogy of the Chartreuse to finish on the vertiginous Vercors mountain range.
History and symbols of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a territory located in the central and eastern part of France. The administrative region covers an area of nearly 70,000 km².
This region is marked by the contrast between the majestic Massif Central, its volcanic areas classified since 2018 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its high granite plateaus, its vineyards and many forests, and the departments located in the Northern Alps (Drôme, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie) with its many imposing massifs.
The climate is of a great variety: mountain, semi-continental, Mediterranean and oceanic, and can reserve beautiful surprises by bike. The typical French villages that dot the route are a feast for the eyes and the heart.
The route is 100% on paved roads. The quality of the tar is variable and depending on the weather conditions the roads can be greasy and covered with leaves, stones etc.
We therefore recommend that you use:
